How to Varnish an Oil Painting

This painting was mostly created in Glazings. That’s why the surface of the painting is so glanced. After the painting has completely dried for about 14 months, it is absolutely ready to be varnished.

How to Varnish an Oil Painting

We already know the process of varnishing. We place the canvas flat on the horizontal surface and coat the canvas with varnish in one direction. Then, we dry it against a wall overnight.

The second varnish layer should be applied in a different direction.

This is how the painting looks before and after varnishing. The Varnish, that is, Satin Varnish, made the surface of the painting look less glanced but more matte and uniform.
