Artwork by Stephanie
Hi, my name is Stephanie, a young Catholic artist who, from a young age, found a passion for art. When I was six years of age, my mother noticed my skills and enrolled me in an art school. At the end of an art lesson within the first few weeks, my art teacher spoke to my mother about how I was completing artworks that students between the ages of ten and twelve were able to create. I liked to create grayscale graphite drawings of animals, portraits, landscapes and still life, which I still do today. However, at the start of my teen years, I began to grow close to the Lord. The more I drew closer to Him, the more the Bible’s pages began to unfold as a concrete reality of my life. From here, I found no greater purpose than to pursue His glory in art. When I was 15, I began to create impressionist paintings. People need hope, thus I knew my purpose was to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. He is the one who helps me with my art, and I plan on continuing art in the future.
Although art holds a foundation in my life, it is still my second priority. I believe that Jesus must be first. “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”- Matthew 6:33.
Some challenges that I have in art is understanding the human anatomy, human proportions and painting my human figures without references. I want to learn how to do this- to have an understanding of human anatomy in order to create figures from my own mind and imagination- without references to images.
I believe that the Old Masters Academy offers exceptional courses when viewing their website, YouTube channel, demo videos, student reviews and flexibility of their courses. At the moment, I am unsure about university because of its known fixation on post-modern and abstract art. I believe that art should be relatable and accessible to everyone. What’s the point if, for most of the time, only art experts can understand it?
This is why I am interested in the Old Masters Academy Course. I believe it truly stands for what art is really about. It encapsulates the definition of art. They definitely offer valuable skills of the masters, which are either lost or forgotten in today’s art world. It would be truly amazing and such a blessing to learn the ways of Leonardo Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Raphael and Michelangelo, because they definitely defined the role of an artwork- to portray the beauty and purpose of life.
I remember the countless discussions with my friend (who is passionate about art) about whether traditional art academies still exist. Some contemporary art colleges and universities are not the same as the art academies and apprenticeships during the time of the old art masters. I was searching for a place that offered a focus on the traditional way of art. Now I have!
I would like to win the Old Masters Academy Course because I truly believe that after completing it, I will have enough skills and knowledge that I can easily apply human anatomy concepts and oil painting skills to any artwork!
I would very much appreciate it if you could vote for me! By winning this course, this would heavily benefit me when it comes to starting a career of being a full-time artist and will not go to waste. I believe God has given me this gift of art for a reason, and I want to use it to advance His Kingdom. I assure you that if I win, I will give full dedication, effort and commitment, knowing that it is a blessing to win and it will help me and others profoundly!
I want to thank the Academy for this potential opportunity. Thank you for helping lots of students and making your courses and knowledge accessible to many.
Thank you for your consideration,
Kind regards,
Stephanie Sertic
