Artwork by Carol
As an artist i use several media; oils, pastel, graphite, charcoal, and a little watercolor. Portraiture is my special interest. (Although documenting a stunning scene in nature is a close second.)
As an art teacher my students learn to see as an artist sees, and develop the skills necessary to draw and/or paint what they see. More fun are a few classes I do at an independent and assisted living facility. I love sharing my expertise and I am apparently very good at it. Have been trying to quit for a year so I can just focus on making me a better artist but they always talk me out of it.

The more I do, the more I struggle with the need to improve my work. No classes, no housework, just the time to focus on drawing and painting. I am good at what I do but not “great”. Building my skills… (i.e. to make my skin more realistic, and my portraits tell a better story) can get me there. My goal is to generate enough interest in my artwork that the viewer struggles to leave it.
My few Old Masters studies have already shown me that dedicated work, continued learning and improvement is necessary to make me the artist I want to be. And this scholarship is also necessary because to cut back on classes and free up time also means less income.
