A Tribute to my Great Grandfather, an Old Master of the Philippines

Ramon Peralta was a well known oil painter in Philippines and also my great grandfather. During the 19th century, he reigned in the art industry a long with artists such as Juan Luna (painter of spoliarium) and Fernando Amonsolo. They learned their oil painting techniques and competed in art competitions within Europe.

Being told this story growing up, it lead me to a path of artistry. From when I was young till now, I have been exposed to many different art mediums. I enjoyed graphic design, painting, sculpting, drawing, makeup artistry and even the performing arts. Though I have tried a variety of ventures, there is still a fire in me towards oil painting.…

…I want to be able to share the word one day about the wonders of your Art Academy. I lack the knowledge on the old Masters techniques and I wish to help contribute bringing it back. Although paintings are a great way to make a mark in history, I believe education is really the true way to keep an art alive.

I get on my sketchbook first thing in the morning

The art took important part in my life

I learned as a carpenter. Later I developed my skill in art societies. The art took important part in my job in my entire life. I needed to apply that everyday.

I’d like widening and deepening my skills. I like the Classicist style but I’m especially interested in Renaissance and Baroque.

Time is my currency

… More importantly, in the wonderful way that art consumes time, it proves Einstein’s Relativity theory. Time DOES fly when someone has fun or drags during something boring or awful. He proved it with an equation. Ever experience time at the canvas, look up, and notice where did the time go? Isn’t it great? But sit in a class with someone who cannot train themselves out of a wet paper bag (knowledge and skill transfer) and it can be pure torture! You sit in front of a muddy, drab canvas and want to quit. So to the Old Masters for us both is seems? Hopefully we can meet on the other side!

Know this. Time is my currency – having gone from life’s fast lane off onto a country dirt road, full stop. I know as someone who like myself (and my birth-mom) the appeal of art falls short of appreciation in someone unwilling or untrained to explore their inner Artist’s Way. To the believer, no explanation is necessary. To the non-believer, none is possible. …
