Balancing Explosiveness and Softness

Artwork by Anastasia Prymachenko

Explosiveness is intuitive for me; I use vibrant colors, aggressive marks, and texture as dimension naturally to express my emotional state. I’ve been drawn to create visually stimulating works that capture the viewer’s eye through movement, color, and texture. Recently, I’ve become interested in using texture as a vehicle for creating dimension in my works. While I believe I excel in this area, I feel that I’m not utilizing texture to its fullest potential.

how to draw skills painting

With my current skills and approach to painting, I’m finding it challenging to stand out in my practice. I struggle with softness, and after viewing Renaissance paintings at a museum recently, I was particularly drawn to the drapery of clothing and the softness that visually feel like velvet. I’ve concluded that this is a skill I need to seek out and learn.

My intention is not to relearn and shelve my intuitive explosiveness but rather to incorporate soft elements into my artwork in a way that I feel has been lost in modern art.

I want to win this Competition and I need your help!

Ana is dedicated to her art and has a very nice style. I love the way she painted the clouds in this one. I think she has a great eye for painting and deserves to win this competition!!
