… Having spent a lifetime with these arts, I came to drawing and painting later. Later means after I had the courage. Quite by chance I saw a wonderful realistic full portrait drawing in a gallery window on my way to work. I loved it. I discovered the same painting reproduced on a flyer advertising art classes. I wrote to the painter who never responded and read through his biography to find he trained in Florence, Italy.
Two years later I spent 8 years in two academic academies, and surprisingly never learned to paint the traditional, time honoured way of the masters. I had wonderful teachers and the experience to study the impressionist style, but the desire to paint like the old Italian masters still remains. …
