I consider myself a self-taught artist

Artwork by Alison de Sando

… My dream as an artist has always been to be able to attend an art academy outside my country, and to learn more about the techniques of the old masters, which have always been my greatest inspiration, but due to financial difficulties this was not possible, and the “old masters” academy “seems to me to be a great and would be online art academy, which comes to bring precisely the knowledge I always dreamed … the techniques of the old masters !!!!

I am self taught artist with the internal need to create

Artwork by Peggy Bobon

… My artistic challenges are that my portraits can be flat and lack the fleshiness of skin. Fabric is a challenge in creating the natural folds and light reflection.

I am self taught artist with the internal need to create and never having an “art lesson”. The Old Masters Academy lessons would elevate my art from a hobby to possibly doing commission work someday. …

I’m an entirely self-taught artist

Artwork by Jeff Vehige

My name is Jeff, and I’m a 45-year-old stay-at-home dad of four kids. I gave up an academic career for my kids, and now that the oldest is off to college and the youngest is eleven, it’s time that I start thinking about my “second” career. I want that to be art. …

…Over the past two years of painting, my artistic interests have evolved. At first, I thought I’d be a happy landscape painter. But now I know I want to tell stories with my paintings, and that means mastering the human face and figure. When I look at the history of art, the greatest figures painters were the Old Masters and all the contemporary artists who follow in their footsteps. That’s the road I want to travel.

I think the Old Masters Academy is a perfect opportunity for learning the “secrets” of the greatest painters who ever lived. I don’t know how far I will go in art, but I want to go as far as I can, to be able to paint whatever I want — or whatever any client wants. That’s I want to win the Old Masters Academy course for that very reason — to begin the journey to becoming a contemporary artist and bring much-needed beauty into this world. …

I want to paint the same way that the old masters did

Artwork by Govind R M

Hey there, I am Govind and am from India. Up until now I have been a self taught artist.
I see and I try to draw or paint whatever I see. But most of my completed works are either not up to my expectations or are simply incomplete.

My favorite artist happens to be Renaissance painter Michelangelo. Such paintings are great source of inspiration to me. Being inspired is one thing, but not able to have great results is another. …

I would LOVE to paint like the Old Masters

Paintings by Renate Pacheco

35 years ago I was a young aspiring artist. Life’s challenges got in the way and my passion for creating art was lost inside of me without a knowing of how to be released.

Over the last few years I attempted to create art in many different mediums. It was when I discovered oil painting that I felt as if I had come home. I can not describe the joy I feel when I am painting on a canvas with oil paints. The art is pouring out of me. All the years without creating seems to be coming out all at once.

I did attend art school for one year many, many years ago. Otherwise I am a self taught artist.
I want to improve upon my lighting and color mixing. …

Painting from Anet Louw

To live a childhood dream

I am a South African self-taught artist, who since childhood dreamed of becoming an artist. I stopped working full-time in 2006 in order to pursue this dream.

Art is my joy and life, art is also the way I can glorify my God.

I do struggle with applying the right colours, when should it be cool and when should it be warm. I do not have the financial means to take art lessons and learn as much as I can from Library Books and free on-line lessons. …
