Artwork by Diana Licon
I have been painting for a number of years exploring a variety of mediums and styles. Art is healing for me through many instances in my life, including the drowning death of my only child. I do not have a child to leave behind, but can create artistic “children” that may last for hundreds of years.
I currently work in both oils and acrylic. I am exploring impasto techniques and have read that the old masters have explored and incorporated impasto in their work. I believe that Rembrandt, Titan and Rubens are a few who found value in this technique. I would like to learn more about this topic too.
Why do I paint historic places and people?
We need to hold on to meaningful memories that foundation who we are and what we have built upon. Museums are in place to help us understand this concept. My work of historic scenes are one of those important links to our roots and help our understanding of how we have evolved.
What do I need to learn?
My challenges in trying to paint realism and to capture atmosphere and feeling in the work, and to tell a story. I need those elements to move my work forward. I believe the old masters had the tools needed to reach these goals.
Why should you vote for me?
I am passionate about painting. I work with art about 5 days a week. I am at a point where my foundation in art must look back historically to find answers to move beyond where I am today.
I am in need of help from the old masters to further my dream of bringing “children” (paintings), into homes that will treasure and enjoy them. My hope is in the Old Masters Academy course.
