Artwork by Liezl
A young girl’s dream
Art was a part of my life since I attended an art gallery with my parents. I was about seven years old. I remember an artist coming over to converse with me, after she saw me looking at her painting. She told me briefly how she added the highlight with her little finger. I couldn’t help myself, I wanted to get my fingers stuck in paint as well.
I loved drawing, and at school I would draw instead of making notes. I never attended art school or art classes though.
I studied another direction, but was involved in a car accident, and couldn’t do what I used to do. I also had to learn again to use my hands. I did it by crocheting and arts and craft classes.
I did a portrait workshop, and went for art classes. But the art classes focused on contemperary methods. I would love to do this course to enhance my portrait painting skills, but also to learn to paint like the old masters did. It would compliment the skills I am learning at the drawing academy.
Thanks to Tanya Vysochanska, without whom this portrait wouldn’t be possible.
