I want to paint every day a new portrait

Oil Paintings by Ton Willems

My name is Ton Willems a part time artist from the Netherlands beside a full time job in Information technology.

As a child I was always drawing comic strip characters or Cars and Trucks from examples or out of my imagination. During my school period the drawing type became a more technical type of drawing like constructions or engineering type of drawing. But after a change of study I became a Information Technology person and only working on very abstract schema like drawings. Only artificial non realistic products where produced.

A few years back I restarted with the drawing of all other things than systems and rediscovered the fun of drawing again. Drawing with pencil and ink was what I would like to do. I always told everybody that I did not like start painting because I thought this was nothing for me. “Only ‘old’ people do that when they retire.” Was my defend then.
Now at the age of 49 and not old I discovered that oil painting is fun to do and is very relaxing, although I’m exhausted after a painting session of 3 hours.

So at this age I discovered that I have a talent in painting portraits and have a lot of fun to do this. Since March 2017 I started painting and am taking classes in oil painting with a remarkable result if I say it myself. From then on I want to paint every day a new portrait.

My challenges within oil painting is to set up a face more quickly and have the dark and lights at the right places earlier in the process. Also the choice and mixing the colours more efficient is where I would like to work on.

An artistic challenge would also be to paint like an old Dutch master like Vermeer or Rembrandt. I have seen a lot of their paintings and would like to make a copy of one as close as possible or make a new painting in the same way as they did.

I real like the what Old Masters Academy does with learning the “new” painters the technics of the old masters.

I want to win the course so I can make more progress in learning the painting technics before I get “old”.

People should vote for me so they soon will get beautiful paintings again from a Dutch Master like in the old times. I have the talent but not yet all technics to produce the beautiful paintings.
