Artwork by Lucia
I am a young half Latina, half Slovakian artist living in America. I cannot remember a time in my life where I wasn’t completely obsessed and absorbed in the world of art. As a child I would spend hours in the classical paintings section of the art museum, as it was and still is a safe space for me. When I was five, I would paint flowers and give them to friends and family. Ever since then, I have aspired to be an artist and today there is absolutely no question in my mind as to what I am destined to do. I never want to stop learning from the old masters, which is why this course excites me so much.
I am very inspired by and have done studies of artists like Rembrandt, Botticelli, and a number of other great master painters. I very much want to preserve the old masters and not forget them in the modern art world.
(It should be noted that the painting I attached is based off a reference photo of Rupi Kaur.)
I honestly don’t know what I would do without any art and painting in my life, it is everything to me and I am determined to pursue my passion of learning to paint. It is a great privilege to live in a world where I can find beauty in mine and other’s art. Art has even served a therapeutic purpose for me, and has eased my anxiety. Between busy classes I can be found content behind an easel with a paintbrush in hand, absorbed in the work.
I can’t afford a grand or expensive art education though I would love to and it has always been my dream., so it would be wonderful if I won this course. The Old Masters Academy impressively offers so much valuable, solid and exciting information. Personally, I would especially love to grow in the areas of color theory and composition.
