Artwork by Zoe Williams
I am an 18 year old artist who loves to draw and paint, and I’ve been doing so since i could hold a pencil and brush. I delight in experimentation and am looking to gain more technical knowledge as I dive into making art my career. Art has always been a soothing balm to my troubles, and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’ve been subscribed to the Old Masters Academy mailing list for a while now, and they’ve tempted me into entering this contest as I, a broke college student, can’t afford to pay for them.
As a college freshman stuck at home because of the pandemic, these classes would really help me keep up and hone my skills and technique more. I’m hoping my work will better speak for itself and that I’ll finally be able to put what I see in my head onto canvas.
The piece pictured was a result of the pure exhaustion I felt during my last year in high school. I noticed something as the weeks blurred together in a haze of studying and frantically applying to college- I never made my bed. The crumpled sheets became an allegory for my emotions and I wanted to convey that tiredness in this piece.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and I hope you enjoy my work!
