Artwork by Larry Blovits
I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts, and Master of Fine Arts from Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan, USA. My major was painting and minor was printmaking. When I was a student at the University, the first painting that really bowled me over was the Rembrandt painting of the Man with the Fur Collar. At that point, I thought that if I could ever paint like that, then I could truly call myself an artist.
As a former college art professor, teaching Basic Drawing, Anatomy and Life Drawing, and Painting, and stressed the master of the basic fundamentals espoused by the Great Masters. Early on in my career, I wanted to become a competent portrait artist, and studied with some of the best. I retired early from the College to be able to spend more time on my art. I have been doing portraits and landscapes over 50 years. I have also taught many workshops around the country and abroad every year since 1975.I also wrote a couple of books, “Pastel for the Serious Beginner” and “Sketching and Drawing”.
I feel and know that through my extensive travels abroad to such places as Italy, France, England, Ireland, Amsterdam, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Portugal, Spain, Austria, Australia, and New Zealand, where I visiting every art museum and palace I could find that I’m still challenged by the exquisite and masterful artwork that I see that exceed the skills that I don’t presently have, and still want to achieve. The Old Masters, from any country, still challenge me.
When I visited the Fine Art Academy in Moscow, I’d wished that I had attended that school because I saw how disciplined the students were, how excellent the teaching was, and how professional their work was.
Even though I’m 82 years old, I still challenge myself to continue working towards mastering my art, take it to the next level, and increase my mastery of all the fundamentals. I have been doing portraits and landscapes over 50 years. The Old Masters are my hero’s and what I still strive to become.
I still believe that I have so much more to learn and think the added input and insights from the Old Master Academy could point out some critical areas that I need to improve on that might bring me closer, or help me to reach my goals, and help me to improve even more.
Thank you for your consideration
Sincerely,
