I have to paint, like I have to breathe

Artwork by Cecile de Villiers

I am an engineer and artist from Cape Town South Africa.

My love for creating art started in school. I especially loved the technical drawing class where I learned how to render a three-dimensional object on a flat surface.

From 2008 to 2017 I took Sculpting art classes combining my love for art and engineering. However, at the end of 2016 I did an Old masters oil painting workshop at the local atelier/art shop and I rediscovered by love for colour and painting; since that day I have to paint, like I have to breathe.

My main challenge is technical oil painting skills. I would love to learn about glazing, drawing and composition. …

My goal is to learn to paint like Rembrandt, Velasquez…

Paintings by Ljiljana Prelevic

I grue up in a great family but my love for art was always put a side not only by my parents but by myself too.

One day, 8 years ago, life tricked me with a question – are you going to spear your life doing nothing for yourself or…..
And I took watercolors did some nice peaces, than acrylic …..and finally oil was on my palette.

I didn’t have no one to go to for the classes so Internet and You tube became my true friends and teachers. As I like realism that only Old Masters could achieve – my goal was how could I learn to paint like Rembrandt, Velasquez, Pieter Claesz ….No need to tell you how often I thought – I cant do it- ….but I was stubborn and I said – Lily you can and must do it.

I am a perfectionist , art lover , learner I want to get better and better every day. When I saw Old Master Academy videos – my only thought was – these artist are reincarnation of those fantastic painters that I adore and admire. …

A whole new world ahead where NOTHING is impossible

Drawings by Ryan P. Spring

I’ve been an artist all my life, however I was at a loss in high school when we were told to pick a career and I said I wanted to be a world famous artist…where did da Vinci turn in his job application?

Dejected I lost 15 years of life in a bottle and had a long road to recovery and now I’m sober and my mind has been opened to a whole new world ahead where NOTHING is impossible.

I’ve been self employed as an artist for the past 2 years with the time being spent mostly on teaching myself oil painting and struggling to learn the business of sales which has been nearly nonexistent.

I learned that the oldest methods of oil painting involved glazing and this is where I’ve been unable to ‘get it’ and wish I was financially able to receive some instruction. …

Old Masters Academy review by Stephanie-Gabrielle Sneed

The methods demonstrated in this course will have direct and immediate impact on my work

Before taking the class, my art skill level is of great potential. I enrolled into this online Art Academy to learn museum quality painting techniques.

I learned so much from the Old Masters Academy — traditional methods like glazing, wet on wet, wet on dry, scumbling and application, plus much more! Also the mixes for flesh and tones will come in handy. …
