How to paint like Leonardo da Vinci

Artwork by John Marshall

… With a fascination of Leonardo da Vinci for many years, it took a hospital visit and the chance reading of “The Saviour of the World” to renew my passion for painting , in particular Fine Art and Renaissance. The Old Masters have been a fascination for the world and reading the story and history of Salvator Mundi, motivated me to channel Leonardo’s technique and spirit. The painting was completed in August 2021 is a replica of the original Salvator Mundi. Taking over 10 months to complete, I sent an image to some of the leading Old Master historians and Leonardo experts in the world. The responses he received were amazing (see below) …

I am a boy with a hobby in drawing and sketching

Artwork by Mitchell

My name is Mitchell. I am a 20-year-old Australian boy with a hobby in drawing and sketching. Mundane as this description sounds, I like to keep things simple ( it’s what Leonardo solicits after all; “Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication”).

However, I should amend drawing and sketching isn’t an entirely appropriate way of describing the hobby. I am more in the habit of trying to cultivate skills to clearly express the unique ideas that cross my mind almost daily. …

I make sure to draw or paint daily to constantly keep improving my skills

Artwork by Nella Schirinzi

I’m a self taught artist with some higher education in Fine Art. I’m Italian & English and currently based in the UK. I work full time in Admin and spend most evenings painting.

Art has and has always had a large place in my life. From visiting museums and spending time trying to recreate old master paintings, I study and read about various art movements. I also find the history and narrative behind old painting very interesting as they add to the piece’s intrigue. I make sure to draw or paint daily to constantly keep improving my skills. …

… I’d love to be able to create pieces of Art to honour the Renaissance Masters and keep this style of Art alive.

To Learn all I can from the past for a brighter future

My name is Samuel Antonio Maita (nicknamed Sam Pako). I am a 23-year-old artist on the rise, from Venezuela living in the United States.

I’m primarily self-taught in drawing, painting and photography from a very young age. I came across the Web Art Academy Course when it was first announced. From then on, I take the lessons slowly to learn all I can from them, for I am committed to progress my craft and my living as an artist.

Ever since I was a young boy, the artworks that fascinated me the most were the classics, especially works by the Italian maestro Leonardo da Vinci; I have learned a great deal from looking at his drawings.

Now that I have been taken up painting, I’m now interested in his work in oils. I’m now open to the teachings of other masters as well, masters like Rembrandt that soon grabbed my attention. …
