Artwork by Francine Proulx Harvey
I’m a 67 year old mother of 5 children with 13 grandchildren who didn’t start painting till around 50 because life was just too busy with our dairy farm, kids and parents. For years, I saved a picture of my husband with our third daughter in his arms, with the intention of learning how to paint it…but the problem was that it took 5 years to find someone who could teach me portraiture! But it was the first “real painting” I did with all the verbal help I could get from my teacher. Mission accomplished!
I have puttered through the years until a couple of years ago when I decided I really needed to try and see where it took me and now it’s my passion. My day doesn’t feel complete unless I’ve done something with my art whether it be with oil, acrylic, watercolor or pastels. (too much perhaps?)
My challenges I think are with color choice and the struggle to see tones better and is therefore what I want to learn from this course. I believe the Old Masters Academy teaches the correct way to paint and is necessary to acquire to become whatever kind of artist you might choose to be afterwards… it’s the best foundation in my view.
I want to win because I want to prove that age makes no difference and that passion has no boundaries. What about the two “oldies” who won a Grammy this year?
I want people to vote for me because really…what more beautiful image is there than of a Father lovingly holding his child?
