I am 75 years old and have been interested in creating great art for most of my life. I was very interested in drawing and painting all the way thru high school and the first two years of college, but as with most people who have a passion – but not an overwhelming desire to follow that passion – life got in the way. I got married, had a daughter, had to make a living and provide for my family. I went to law school and after graduating and passing the bar I went to work as a Deputy District Attorney. As I got closer to retirement I started watching art shows on PBS and they rekindled my desire to create art. I just didn’t know how to go about it.
In the summer of 1996, I received a flyer from my local jr. college offering several art courses and I again dipped my feet into art. Over the years, I have taken most of the art courses offered there but I still feel that something is missing. Something more than just the general education of teaching art to beginning college students. For me, the challenge of creating great art is the need to have the necessary foundational tools to be able to do that. While I received some instruction in the foundational tools at the JC, I believe that there is so much lacking that I need to look elsewhere.
After reviewing the courses offered by The Old Masters Academy, I believe it is exactly what every artist, beginning, intermediate, or professional needs to have to develop the skills necessary to create the art of their dreams – the great art of the “modern” masters. By using the skills learned from the old masters we can go forward in our artistic careers. I am a firm believer that anyone can learn any skill, as long as there are the proper teachings available. The Old Masters Academy is structured in the manner of the old Ateliers providing the necessary instructional segments to propel the student forward.
I want to win the Old Masters Academy course because I believe them to be the best method of learning what I need to learn to enhance and improve my art skills.
People should vote for me because I’m 75 years old! I wasted a lot of time “growing up” and I need to get my act in gear!
