I want to be a fine artist

I want to be a fine artist

… Years ago, I first picked up painting accidentally after a trip to France and capturing the beautiful countryside with my camera. When I got home, the photos looked so beautiful that I decided I would try to paint it. I was hooked ever since. However, over the years, I have not had any proper training as I was always busy with work, etc. But I kept at it with my painting and, from time to time, I would visit galleries and museum just to look at paintings and to perhaps “reverse engineer” what I was seeing. It sometime worked but mostly I would spend hours just trying to get it down, reworking the painting again and again, just so it looked reasonably in decent form. This inconsistent method and approach to painting is so tiresome. I am hoping for a change and a solution to my lack of knowledge as a painter. …

Excellence Is Not A Destination, It Is A Continuous Journey That Never Ends

Artwork by Regina Baxter

… My pursue of the arts started at a later part of my life. I became a wife, mother and had a career. When I turned 40, I did a masters degree in art and a postgraduate degree in art history. I have always been passionate and loved art that any free time I had on holiday, I would not go to the shops, but instead go to museums and galleries. This amused my husband as I didn’t spend money shopping. …

I truly wish to take a course with the Old Masters academy to continue to improve my skills in drawing and painting with the techniques of my favourite artists.

… An “odd” thing, I want to write here, yet True is that I went to a person many years ago, that can communicate with Spirits on the other side.
The Spirit gave me a Message, that I should bring out the Art and Show to others, what I can.

An opportunity to become the kind of painter I admire

Artwork by Annie Lee Wehrli

I have painted off and on for over twenty years but continue to struggle with repeatable results. I would like to be able to create a good likeness each time I sit down to paint. Right now it feels like when I get a good result, it’s a happy accident.

My skills progressed the most during a year in art school. It was the first time I had ever really painted, besides playing around with different media while growing up. It was certainly the first time I’d had any formal training and the constant practice and guidance was invaluable. The Old Masters Academy online course would allow me to have that same kind of sustained instruction while living in a relatively remote area. …

I promised myself I would be an artist once retired

Artwork by Judith Durling

… As a child, my biggest desire was to have a blackboard so that I could write and draw upon it. My interest in painting was given birth when one of my brothers brought home tubes of oil paint along with a brush picked up in a second hand store and said “these are for you”. That was exciting for me.

The second glimmer of hope for me in art was when my high school art teacher told me my paintings were “way ahead of time” and urged me to continue my skills in college. Art College never happened, you see, as I was born into a very poor family, and the future of a girl such as I was to get married, have children, and be a good wife, if I were lucky. …

I am a full time artist but I have no training

Artwork by Lory Grimard

I am a full time artist since 2015. So art is at the very center of my life. I have been drawing portraits for a long time and have been painting for about 10 years but I have no training.

I struggle with painting people in a scene. I want to make the movement and position of the body look natural. I would love to learn the technics of layering.

I think Old masters academy is great, it shows that we learn from the great of the past. I love the precision and technics that are taught by the academy.

I would like to become a professional artist who can paint like the old masters

Artwork by Jenny Lee

I joined the Web Art Academy some years ago while I was still working as a cardiac theatre nurse. I completed all the courses, learning a great deal of oil painting skills and techniques. I also painted at every opportunity, watercolours, acrylics and oils. I was encouraged by my family, friends, colleagues and collectors. …

Everyone loves this painting and it sold almost immediately when I exhibited it. It’s one of my favourite portraits. However, I am aware of my limits. I need more in-depth training and I believe that the Old Masters Academy can greatly help me to fulfil my dream, which is to become a professional artist who can paint like the old masters.

I am a self-taught painter …

Artwork by Aleph

I am a self-taught painter and I have begun to draw since I was a child. I have studied the works of Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Velasquez and in general the history of art up to our days.

Art plays an important role in my life since it allows me to meditate on things and people. There are some contemporary artists whose works are appropriate to my way of painting such as David Leffel, Sherrie Mcdraw, Gregg Kreutz, Cesar Santos and others because their painting represents a renaissance of Realism. …
