I would like to impress people with my art

Painting by Victoria Lian

I live in Croatia where is very bad art education. In Croatia, there is only one academy of art and four art schools. I have been surrounded by art all my life and art made a lot of influence on me.

My dad has when he was younger painted some paintings and made some wooden sculptures what were in the time displayed in the school, my mother has been fascinated by photography.

My challenge is to paint or draw something that I like and stop painting paintings that would people with some knowledge of art call pure ugliness. I would love to learn the techniques of the old masters and how to properly use art materials.

I would also like to impress people with my art. …

The old masters in my life

Artwork by Anahí González

I am a teacher in a secondary school. I live in the province of Misiones, in Argentina.

Art is a very important part of my life, I consider it a vehicle to express ideas and feelings that are not possible to communicate in another way.

The main artistic challenges that I have are to improve and learn more about the classical techniques and used it in my personal plastic work.

I am particularly interested in classical and academic art; especially regarding the human figure as the central theme.
I studied art at university, but I feel that I need a deeper training in classical techniques. …

Nature lover – art maker

Artwork by Kathleen Sauer

I am a lover of nature and my favorite activity (after making art) is hiking in the woods near my home.

I draw a lot of inspiration from the woods and creek near my house and have painted many scenes from the park. I have drawn and painted most of my life. I have been a graphic designer throughout my professional career and owned a graphic arts studio for many years. My subjects run the gamut, but I love portraiture and landscapes the most.

My landscapes often include trees and the trees often exhibit human qualities. I have recently taken several life drawing classes and find that I approach my drawings of the human body as landscapes.

I love drawing and painting the subtle movement of light on the human form…

We shouldn’t abandon what history can teach us

Artwork by Anya Grey

I’ve mostly been a self-taught artist until very recently and I’m currently looking for oil painting teachers and ateliers in real life and I would love to have access to all of Old Master Academy’s resources. I feel like I have come to a point in my journey where I need guidance to improve even further.

My biggest struggle when it comes to art is time. I constantly feel like I’m in a race against time, against myself. I go through stages of painting 8-10 hours a day, and then not even touching a pencil for weeks. I am trying to change this by giving myself a more rigid schedule. …

Techniques of the old masters have guided my work for years

Artwork by Charles Daniels

I am a retired physicist. However, I have been drawing and painting since I was very young. At the present time I am enjoying pastel painting, Ling Nan Style Chinese Watercolors, and graphite drawings.

My greatest artistic challenge is to create artful and accurate portraits as well as lovely landscapes. To me the greatest challenge in any art project is composition. Almost everything else is secondary.

The techniques of the old masters have guided my work for years. Several years ago I studied, part time, with Myron Barnstone. I would love to continue to explore the techniques that he taught, which correspond to the approach taken by the Old Masters Academy. …

I’m compelled to learn the techniques of the old masters

Artwork by Patricia Stine

… Art expresses life, love, humor, passion and frames the divine. It unveils the soul and reveals fresh perspectives. It is what I live for each day!

I’m compelled to learn the techniques of the old masters. I wish to refine my drawing, achieve harmony, new compositions, get the proportions correct the first time, and master the colors.

It’s the human figure that I’d like to perfect. To me, it’s the biggest challenge with the greatest rewards. The Old Masters Academy cultivates competent artists in these areas. So that’s my goal.

I’d like to integrate the life passion that I feel being a nomadic artist with a solid foundation in classical art. I’d like to share other worlds through my art with viewers and am better able to accomplish this through classical discipline which realistically, yet beautifully expresses thoughts and feelings so poetically. …
