how-to-paint- drawings and paintings influenced by the old masters

In my drawings and paintings I am influenced by the old masters

Artwork by Marianna Nagy Lantos

It is my old desire to learn the techniques of the old masters.

After the birth of my children, I looked for the opportunity for home training, which I was able to do comfortably with the young children. When I saw my first Old Masters Academy training, I applied immediately and gladly. I loved the understandable, simple guidelines that made it easy to achieve spectacular success. During my studies, I liked the plant parts of the paintings, so I began to delve deeper into the world of plants and developed in that direction. Although I am currently painting with watercolor paint, I would later like to mix this knowledge Witteg oil painting and learn as much as I can. I love mineral historical pigments whenever I can, I paint with this type of paint. …

Art is the only reason for living for me

Artwork by Maria Wegorzewski Grotek

My life is ART. I have been drawing since 6 and using paint when I was 10 I was asked to paint posters and class mural painting for special events with a couple of other students. I continued my art through high school won a province wide competition to enter Ontario Art College on scholarship in Grade 12 unfortunately my parents were poor and there was no money to buy supplies for the course. I was also told by my mother I did not need an education because my career would be to marry and have children not to fill my head with learning that would only make trouble. …

Freedom!

Artwork by Isabel Schmitz

… Technique is crucial to all Art. As a tool, which should so natural that it is not a presence in itself, but which serves to make the spirit of the artwork visible.
To learn and to understand the techniques of the Old Masters (build-up, composition, colour, glazing etc.) would give me the tools to greatly enhance my artistic vocabulary and help me attain the freedom I now miss. What I would love to achieve with this course, is to paint with more grace and ease, to explore a new realm, enabling me to expand my world and in so doing give beauty back to the world in which I live! …

… The Old Masters Academy appears to me to be wonderfully structured, offering clear and precise lessons stretching into every nook and cranny possible. It empowers students of every level, giving them the tools and the skills necessary to blossom confidently in their discovery of fine art. …

I decided to become a full time artist

Artwork by Jenifer Sherina Edwin

… I’m interested in learning the techniques and styles of the old masters and honing my skills as an artist. This is exactly what the old masters academy is trying to teach prospective artists. As a person who took up art for a profession without a formal training in art, I would like to inspire people to follow their dreams.

To dive deep, to climb another step!

My name is Nicki and I’m a digital artist. For years I have been working mostly digital and in my free time I have been painting watercolors.

Old Masters Academy review by Maria Oliynyk

Before and After by an Old Masters Academy student

I studied painting in Kharkiv. I painted and drew well in academic style. I painted in separate brushstrokes in the manner of Repin and Sargent. But when I was a student and afterwards, I had never come across any teacher who would teach me how to paint like the Old Masters. I could copy Old Masters’ works in museums, but it was always a copy made in rough brushstrokes. I tried to do sfumato by smoothing the paint on the canvas, but it was ALWAYS simply a simulation of the Old Masters — I could never achieve their real effects.

I’m attaching my student’s artwork, which is very academic and not “Old Mastery” at all as I would like it to be. …
