Artwork by Patti Douglas
I am a native New Yorker, living in California. I have two grown children that are both pursuing a creative career. Now its time for me to pick up where I left off before I started a family.
My passion was to attend Art College, but my parents wanted me to get my teaching credentials, which made sense at the time, which I did. I taught in California schools for 26 years and recently retired from public education. Now is the time to devote myself to my passion of drawing and painting. Throughout the years I have taken drawing and painting classes so I always kept that passion alive.
While teaching full time, raising a family, and continuing my education, finding time to paint was challenging. Now that I am retired, I can devote time for my passion.
My artistic challenges are now finding my style in painting and marketing myself. What is unique about my art work? This I have to discover and unleash about myself and my artwork.
I know I really enjoy detailed work, so learning to loosen up and do some abstract painting is something I need to learn. Its been a long time since I did figure drawing and portraits. I feel that is something I will need to revisit and delve into again.
Old Masters Academy is where I can learn to paint and draw professionally with confidence. I want to win this course to feel confident with my artwork, knowing I will learn to improve my techniques and skills.
People like my artwork now, so asking them to vote for me to improve my skills will be an easy task for them. I am not real big on social media, but hope it will help. Thank you for this opportunity to learn from the Old Masters Academy.
The acrylic painting I chose was from an art class taken and the picture is from the Elkhorn Slough in Monterey County near where I live.
