I like to play with colors…

Artwork by Shubendu Sarkar

I always wonder the way old masters render the things, the way the brush stokes apply giving a luminous effect, but when you close up it all brush strokes, thick pigments of colours as we can seen in portraits of Rembrandt (the dutch master). I want to recall that academics in my work 21st century.

My paintings based on the daily life subject can be chilling evening landscapes or Banarasi Ghats… portrait of common people/personality. Moreover, I prefer alla prima method of oil painting means complete in the first attempt as quickly as possible..

Doing this course is a dream of mine

Painting by Ken Flander

My name is Ken Flander and I have been very impressed by the quality of the Old Masters Academy Course. I had never imagined that it would be possible for me to learn Old Masters painting techniques on the internet!

I have been drawing and painting since I was a young child. For me it is something that I actually need to do to feel complete as a person. It gives me great fulfillment and satisfaction.

Art takes important part in my life

Artwork by Peter Somlyai

Péter Somlyai is my name. I was born in 1955 Nagykőrös in Hungary where I live today.

I learned as a carpenter. Later I developed my skills in art. The art took important part in my job in my entire life. I needed to apply that everyday.

I’d like widening and deepening my skills. I like the Classicist style but I’m especially interested in with Renaissance and Baroque.

I think the Old Masters Academy offers an opportunity for me to learn new topics. …

Lifelong desire to paint, finally doing it

Artwork by Mark Cotrupe

I fell in love with art, and especially painting when I took a humanities class in High School. I tried painting but wasn’t able to afford lessons, and got frustrated. I spent the next 50 years doing Photography instead. I kept trying to make my photos look like paintings.

Finally, when I retired just over a year ago, even though I still had to work another year, I decided to pursue painting seriously. I am in love with painting. Now that I have left the world of working for wages, I am in serious pursuit of producing great art.

These days, there are so many instructional videos available, and I consumed many of them. It made me feel like I can paint ok, and my work is ok, but I’m feeling like I am missing a solid technical background. That is why I would love to win the Old Master’s course.

Not having technical training is like learning a song on a guitar without learning about music. You will always be limited and fall short in some area. I need the information and discipline. …

Learning to draw from the Old masters is the most unique gift of all

Artwork by Asma Ahmed

My name is Asma and I am currently learning Fine Arts In National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan and I have a strong ambition to learn the traditional and contemporary forms of art.

One of my Artistic Challenges is learning to draw “Still life’ as nothing is truly more difficult than simply drawing from pure observation. I hope to learn many things in terms of Art such as Digital Painting, Animation, Water colors and Miniature Art which is scarce.

The Old Masters Academy will help me to learn the basic foundation of Arts and in order to become a great artist one must seek to learn that of the old Masters such as Michelangelo and Albrecht Dürer one of my favorite artists, meaning one must learn “how to draw”. …

Each day I draw figures…

Artwork by Brando

For years I have been an art director for the major record labels and have had a great platform to show my art. At the beginning of the year I left that career to take the year to travel the world and just paint/draw every day. These have been the most content and fulfilling months of my life – being able to create solely for myself.

I will now be taking my chances as a full time painter and it is a really exciting venture. …

… I spent 4 years at an art academy earning a bachelor of fine arts degree – where I learned nothing. It was a structure built to collect money and not create art. My goal is not to make money, my friends say that I’m allergic to it, I just want to create art for personal therapy and share it with the world who may find their own therapy in it. …
