I am 55 years old. I was born in Guatemala City and as long as I remember, I have always loved to draw but really did not have the time to dedicate myself to learn. All drawing instruction I had was from primary and high school art classes. Later in my life I enrolled in free courses, beginning Calligraphy online courses, lettering and aquarelle courses. Finally, I enrolled a drawing academy where I had to copy certain things at the academy and I was only allowed to draw three hours per week, so I did not advance much. …
Throughout my childhood I always had pencils or paint in my hands. I entered many competitions and won a few. But life as an adult began and creating art fell by the wayside. Now I’m older, my children are older and I have the time to pursue the pencils and paint that I left behind.
I love to paint animals, building up their features one layer at a time. I do struggle to know if a painting is done, if I’ve captured the animal’s uniqueness to the best of my ability or if I’ve gone too far and should have stopped a few brushstrokes ago! …
To the path of my primary school which was in an old and traditional quarter of ancient city. All the old Alleys, the colors of the walls, people all fascinated me. I started by drawing with simple supplies and simple knowledge.
But not having much encouragement from my parents, who were interested in completing my traditional education like other children of the family. But this behavior strengthened me and prompted me to learn drawing and painting my self.
I live in Croatia where is very bad art education. In Croatia, there is only one academy of art and four art schools. I have been surrounded by art all my life and art made a lot of influence on me.
My dad has when he was younger painted some paintings and made some wooden sculptures what were in the time displayed in the school, my mother has been fascinated by photography.
My challenge is to paint or draw something that I like and stop painting paintings that would people with some knowledge of art call pure ugliness. I would love to learn the techniques of the old masters and how to properly use art materials.
