For the love of Old Masters

I have always loved to draw sketches and paint. I have never had any formal training except for some pointers by a wonderful artist and art teacher who now lives in Australia.

My passion was always to try and replicate from the paintings of old masters like Greuze, Ruben and other wonderful artists of their time. Here I am sharing one of such efforts which is proof of my desire to paint like these great artists.

Having had this dream for doing more in this field I somehow remained engaged in several left-brained activities like having a full time job and several social sector initiatives in my country i.e Pakistan, hence couldn’t do what I always wanted to do, i.e. Paint! …

Artist engineer

I am a retired engineer who had a hidden interest in art and can now let it come to the fore.

I paint in oils several times per week and try to improve my ability. Being rather conservative, I appreciate the art of the old masters particularly Vermeer whose paintings I love to copy. …

I still dreaming about learning more and more about art

My name is Saida, I am from Morocco, I grew up in a sober city Marrakech, full of colors and art.

To the path of my primary school which was in an old and traditional quarter of ancient city. All the old Alleys, the colors of the walls, people all fascinated me. I started by drawing with simple supplies and simple knowledge.

But not having much encouragement from my parents, who were interested in completing my traditional education like other children of the family. But this behavior strengthened me and prompted me to learn drawing and painting my self.

Painting my way to recovery…

Once upon a time, a young happy athletic girl found herself with a narrow existence struggling with a chronic pain from my head to my toes throughout her life. In 2013 a diagnosis of Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS). This autoimmune disease is a type of arthritis of the spine. No cure, but at least I had confirmation. I am still determined and optimistic.  There is always light at the end of my road, field of trees or even darkness.

Everyday my hope was that my words, actions and my creative self will encourage the observer to seek a moment of kindness and reflection each and every day of our lives through my art.

One day I found a surgeon to fix the mechanical defect in my back. After many years, it felt foreign yet holding a paint brush in my hand.
Because of that desire to create no matter what obstacle

My own art became my physical therapy for my hand, arm and back during that first recovery.

My way to art

I am a self-taught painter, I strive to learn every day the technique of the old masters of the Renaissance.

Art is for me, it is the breath of life that makes me envelop every day in a heavenly spirit.

My great artistic challenge is to achieve with my paintings that people change for the good, that those people who are suffering, find in my art spiritual happiness.

With art I want to learn to carry messages of love and peace to all human beings, especially the most needy. …

An realist artist with modernist background

As a realist artist with modernist background, I use some parts of contemporary concepts even in my classical realist works. Usually I am working on Plain-Air and basically paint what I see but I do many works linking my realistic interpretations to other trends of today.

Art for me is a way to create beauty. Beauty on canvas of course, but more important create beauty in real life.

My artictic chellenges is to study old masters technique and create beautiful art works with modern spirit.

Art has become my primary occupation since retirement

I am an old man who does not deserve to win this prize. However, if I do win I promise to never compete for funds or payment that takes away from younger professional painters.

Art has become my primary occupation since retirement. Everything I have painted I have given away. (Think of me as a loss leader in the art market. If my art works, potential clients might say, “I need to think about buying art.”)

I am a watercolor student in a class with 30 other talented seniors. I also do water miscible oils.

My challenge is to do enough art on a daily basis that I become proficient in making recipients delighted with my gifts. …

Uncovering the mystery, finding he lost and losing the found

I have been an artist for most of my life, since a child doing many drawings through to a young mum who realised that my painting was so much a part of my identity and spirituality.

My art making is my DNA , is who I am and why I want to be.

My biggest challenge at this time in my life is total focus. I work very well with deadlines, if I don’t have them then all the others “things” get in the way.
I have reached a point in my creative life that work I would have once been happy with I now see differently and now have a much higher aim.

The Old Masters Academy appeals to me because I really value the old techniques and would love to integrate them in my work and in growing in my technique.

I want to learn how to paint people like the old masters

Hello, My name is Breno Rossini, I’m Brazilian and I’m 21 years old. I live in Espírito Santo, state near to Rio de Janeiro, and I am a student of Visual Arts at the federal university of my state.
My biggest challenge is to draw and paint human figures, because although it is what I love to do, it is the part that I have the most difficulty.

My professional goal is to be a classical painting teacher, so I think the OLD MASTERS ACADEMY is the best option I could find to achieve my goal because it is a very complete and didactic course that demonstrates adding much knowledge to your students.

So many muses. So little time.

Although I trained in fine art at collage I didn’t paint at all! I was hooked on the shape and stories of the human body and made body casts and photographs to explore themes of attachment, and memory.

The paintings submitted for this competition are the 3rd time I have ever used oils
. I was so grateful for the Old Master Academy webinars because I literally knew nothing about oil painting before. Every morning I would start in my studio with their video and watch one lesson before starting from there. It was slow and very satisfying process. They showed me every step of the way. No questions were left unanswered and I felt supported in my new venture.

My painting techniques got better every day and artist friends of mine even commented on how much I was improving and not to give up on those tough days!
