Hello! My name is Maya. I am 16 years old and a self-taught artist.

Art has always been a huge part of my life. I would spend most of my time drawing and doing watercolor, but a few years ago I fell in love with oil painting. I love Renaissance art and the way they depicted realism and expressions, as well as the beauty of nature and human bodies.

I would watch tons of YouTube videos of people doing oil paintings and I’ve always wished to be able to paint as great as them, but unfortunately, I lack the necessary knowledge. …

As a child I loved drawing and copied the old masters drawings. I applied to art college and decided to do graphic design. I had a liking for typography. I did not loose my interest in art and studied history and visited art galleries.

My regret is that I never continued my academic study of the classical methods of painting and drawing. It has taken a lifetime to realise my short comings, I continue to struggle and would love to take part in this competition. …

… I want to bring my skill level up so that I can paint anything the way I want it to look. I want to make art from my imagination with realistic details, not just copying, but understanding the lines and knowing golden rules.

From my experience I have realized that passion, emotion and feelings are important, but they are not enough without proficiency, skill and instruction. I am sure that with the Old Master Academy I will fill in the gap more quickly than with other resources.

My name is Amber. I never painted with traditional medium. The art piece I submitted for this competition is a digital painting. My degree and work are both unrelated to art. I started to learn how to draw last year. Now, I am seriously considering to become a freelance illustrator.

Unlike many artists who start to paint at young age, I did not receive any serious art training in childhood. During the pandemic, I took some art classes. Then my interest for art grows. …

… My biggest artistic challenge is to create what I feel, the drawing itself, the realism is so new and did realize I need good foundations, to be able to create the good quality art.

I want to learn the new skills of realism, because I would like to combine that with my abstraction work. I’m exited to get to see the art history again…. Do you imagine how amazing it must be to get involved into discovery how Old Masters did paint with light? Absolutely amazing. I would love to be a part of this.
