how-to-paint- started painting out of boredom

I only started painting out of sheer boredom

Artwork by Paul Houson

I only started painting 4 months ago out of sheer boredom. Where I live in southern California, everything was closed–all museums, restaurants, most galleries unless by appointment, basically all entertainment. Also, because I have an advanced stage of Parkinson’s, getting around by car presents its challenges at best so I’m confined to home most days. …

I’ve had no prior artistic experience or art related education other than developing a rather large figurative collection during the last 50yrs. These artists have been my inspiration and I’ve tried to convey the same insights and skill they have so readily mastered. Yet, I feel guilty asking for help from those artist’s that I’ve patronized. …

I took up drawing and painting daily

Artwork by Carollyne Sinclaire

As a child I loved to draw and paint, rushing home from school to watch The John Nagy Learn to Draw show. On Saturdays I attended a children’s class at the Vancouver School of Art but then, in my teens, my confidence eroded.

I have always been self-critical but I was also joined by an art teacher who did not encourage my efforts, telling me not to proceed in his “field”. I dropped it all, just like that. Over time, I would take a drawing class or a painting class and my enthusiasm would soar . . . and then land again. There seemed to be no purpose for my work. …

how-to-paint-wish Old Masters Academy course

I sincerely wish Old Masters Academy course!

Artwork by Dora Florescu

I am very curious to know the content of knowledge this course it contains.
Natalie’s previous course helped me a lot to progress professionally, guided me and I managed to save many hours of personal research, guiding me in my efforts, and discovering if I can say so, the way.

Natalie is a dedicated art tutor, and the degree of professionalism of these courses is very high.

Nothing teaches you patience like waiting for paint to dry

Artwork by Frederick Wayne Woods

I am now 79 years old.
I started painting approximately 10 years ago. I refused to set around and watch TV like some of my friends.

It is almost like having a Job. I get up in the morning and know exactly what I am going to do. I go down to my basement studio, start preparing for the days painting. Some times when I get really interested in a painting, I may work around the clock until it is finished. I can never say a painting is finished. If you are as critical as I, you can always find fault and try to change this and that. However, you must come to a point the lay down the brush. …

how-to-I want to be like old masters

I want to be someone like old masters

Artwork by Saghi Komaie

I’m an art enthusiast and I read several books about medieval art, high Renaissance to baroque painting as well as working as an artist.

As you see in the picture my skills are improving everyday by working hard on forms shading and more but my problem is turning them into something 100% perfect like old masters. …

I want to be someone like old masters I want to form my ideas and stories into high quality perfect paintings and I want to do this in my whole life …

Is art selfish how-to-paint-self-taught-artist

Is art selfish? No! …and yes.

Artwork by Scott Shulman

About 8 years ago I had a midlife crisis of sorts. My father, who had worked very hard his whole life, passed away three months after retiring. He had only a couple of carefree months in his adult life, and barely scratched the surface of the things he wanted to do.
I decided to make some changes to my lifestyle. I began basically working part-time, took a paycut, and made space for the things I really cared about — my family and my Art, something I hadn’t done seriously since high school.

But Art consumes lots of time — ESPECIALLY when you are learning. …

how-to-paint-self-taught-way artist

I developed myself in a self-taught way

Artwork by Péter Somlyai

… In the last 10 years, among other things, I graduated from the Piarista grammar school in Kecskemét, I developed myself in a self-taught way, then I went to an online academy and an evening school of painting at the SzámalkSzalézi Szki. where I can learn the mysteries of painting from Contemporary Artists, namely János Zoltán Kovács and many other excellent artists. I also got my Certificate as a Graphic Designer and Painter here, which is the fruit of 4 hard years of work.

I am greatly influenced by the realistic academic school and the great masters of Impressionism, I follow them, I declare myself a Post-Impressionist, but the novel techniques are not far from me either. …

Peaceful joyful art-self-taught-artist

Peaceful joyful art

Artwork by Mary Carro

Hi that’s just me being blunt part of my personality ! I love art, my mother was an artistic person who taught her five kids to appreciate and experience art in all its forms . We all drew as children . When we had nothing to do she would ask us to draw.

Something and then she would grade us. I also encourage art with my own grandchildren. …

My husband built me a small studio in my garage but I’m yearning for proper training . I would love to fulfill the dream my mother had but was not able because of circumstances to achieve in her life . She passed away a few years ago and I have had this longing ever since . I never feel more peaceful or more joyful yet more excited than when I’m painting

how-to-paint-I have painted the wealthy and the poor and everyone in between

I have painted the wealthy and the poor and everyone in between

Artwork by William A. Wachter

I am old, retired, and began painting seriously in 2015. In 2020 I completed 40 pieces of art, mainly portraiture.

I give my art to the subjects since I want to spread a little joy in the world without adversely affecting the art market in the place I live.

I prefer to paint young families and grandparents and their grandchildren. I have painted all four of my children and their spouses and children (charity begins at home). I have painted a professional model and given her my painting to honor her courage for modeling in what can only be described as dangerous circumstances. I have painted the wealthy and the poor and everyone in between.

Staying motivated is my primary concern and free portraiture for demanding patrons (like interested grandmas) is a great way to do it.

I loved drawing-how-to-paint-self-taught-artist

I loved drawing, and at school I would draw instead of making notes

Artwork by Liezl

I loved drawing, and at school I would draw instead of making notes. I never attended art school or art classes though.

I studied another direction, but was involved in a car accident, and couldn’t do what I used to do. I also had to learn again to use my hands. I did it by crocheting and arts and craft classes.

I did a portrait workshop, and went for art classes. But the art classes focused on contemperary methods. I would love to do this course to enhance my portrait painting skills, but also to learn to paint like the old masters did. It would compliment the skills I am learning at the drawing academy. …
