I’m old – But Not a Master Yet ….

Artwork by Carol Rickless

Hello, I’m Carol and am a recent retiree who always loved doing art; drawing, painting, crafting and designing. My dream in high school was to go to college and major in the fine arts. But then, I started work, put myself through a local college and got a ‘safe” degree, Sociology. I finished my working career as an administrative assistant, not a particularly creative job!

I’ve taken many classes in acrylic, watercolor and decorative painting as well as drawing courses. I enjoy going to museums and art galleries to see how artists handle their medium and what inspires them. I belong to our local art league and have made some wonderful friends.

My artistic challenges are color mixing, shading and learning how to “see” what my oil painting needs to move it to the next level. I would like to learn more about good composition.

I am a self-taught artist who is still learning

Artwork by Umut Sungur

In my language Umut means Hope and according to artist Gerhard Richter “Art is the highest form of hope”. Art is another way of expressing your feelings, thoughts, hopes and dreams.

I am a self-taught artist who is still learning and I know there is a lot to learn. My journey started 6 years ago. I wanted to learn sculpting but I discovered that you have to have a sound base. So I attended drawing classes and then studied oil painting in different courses. …

how-to-paint-Old-Masters-My dream technique of the old masters

My dream is to work in the technique of the old masters

Artwork by Nataliya Kashubina

From early childhood I did draw a lot, I was drawing everything I saw. I never had any chance to achieve my dream. That’s why I became an engineer, after manager and then the housekeeper. A few years ago I did remember about the main dream of my life and started with a pencil.

I love the graphics for expressiveness and conciseness. Also, I try to work in oil. But I feel like a blind kitten. I can stay hours in front of great paintings in museums, looking at every inch of canvas and one thought bothers me: “Well, how could they paint like that?” My dream is to work in the technique of the old masters and have clear viewing and understanding how to paint a picture.

I have few copies of paintings in the technique of old Dutch masters made by myself. I would like to learn old techniques and drawing of people. I want to get a holistic education and, finally, to see the light. I do think the Academy of Old Masters is the best way for my dream to become true. …

I studied and copied works of the great old masters of the Renaissance

I studied and copied works of the great masters of the Renaissance…

Artwork by Jorge Paz

…I have never had formal studies and I have learned by experimenting and having successes and mistakes. Over the years I have experienced painting different subjects including wildlife, however today at the age of 50 I still have the same fascination for art, especially classical art.

Professionally I have developed in the field of graphic design and advertising but during all these years I have devoted most of my free time to painting and to this day my greatest wish is still to be able to paint like the great masters of the Renaissance and to be able to achieve the highest possible degree of perfection in order to combine these techniques with contemporary themes and to be able to create works of great beauty.

I am currently at a turning point in my life and I am thinking about dedicating myself full time to the art of painting and I believe that winning the opportunity to receive the Old Masters Academy course …

I’m gonna win

Artwork by Aaron Cristofaro

Hi I’be been drawing and painting since I was ten.

Art takes place all day long in my life as I even have further projects that I’ve planned ahead.

My artistic challenges is to polish up my painting skills so I can paint like the old masters. I want to learn how to be a seasoned painter in the style of the old masters.

how-to-paint-like-Old-Masters-I like to play with colors

I like to play with colors…

Artwork by Shubendu Sarkar

I always wonder the way old masters render the things, the way the brush stokes apply giving a luminous effect, but when you close up it all brush strokes, thick pigments of colours as we can seen in portraits of Rembrandt (the dutch master). I want to recall that academics in my work 21st century.

My paintings based on the daily life subject can be chilling evening landscapes or Banarasi Ghats… portrait of common people/personality. Moreover, I prefer alla prima method of oil painting means complete in the first attempt as quickly as possible..
