I am 75 years old and have been interested in creating great art for most of my life. I was very interested in drawing and painting all the way thru high school and the first two years of college, but as with most people who have a passion – but not an overwhelming desire to follow that passion – life got in the way. I got married, had a daughter, had to make a living and provide for my family. I went to law school and after graduating and passing the bar I went to work as a Deputy District Attorney. As I got closer to retirement I started watching art shows on PBS and they rekindled my desire to create art. I just didn’t know how to go about it. …

My story is a very simple one. I have always had a passion for art. For over 20 years I had a successful business painting ceramic tiles for customers all over the world from India to Mexico. Then the big earthquake struck Los Angeles and I changed direction and went back to work in an office for the next 15 years. In between I lost my husband to cancer and remarried. Then, in 2011 I officially retired. I was at a loss as to how to occupy my time after working in an office surrounded by people and activity for so long. One day I stumbled on an art school that was giving a free trial class. I decided to try it. Bingo! My passion was renewed, and I signed up. I took classes until COVID hit and the school was forced to close. I was lucky enough to have a studio in my home, and with music in the background, brush in hand, a palette full of bold oil colors and a blank canvas waiting to be filled, I painted. …

I am an artist. My name is Julie Evans. I have been oil painting since I was 11 years old, as well as watercolor painting. I started drawing even earlier. I just turned 55 this month.
I am primarily an oil painter, but occasionally enjoy using watercolors and other mediums. I have been known for my realistic portrayals of nature, having painted hundreds of landscapes. I have also painted still life and portraits.
I paint on location and in my home studio where my fervor for nature’s beauty translates to my painting. Art also appeals to my analytical mind. I enjoy playing with the laws of nature and subtle nuances of the laws of light and spotlighting. I find painting harmonious with the exciting spellbinding search for perfection and order. My name is Debbie and I am in my early 60’s. I spent my working life as an aesthetician which I loved. I live on a wine farm in the Cape in South Africa. My husband and I have two adults sons and my treasured German Shepard rescue dog.
Although I have no formal art training I have over many years attended various short art modules at a local studio. Art is in my ‘sole’ and I feel a persistent desire to keep on trying. I feel vulnerable each time I begin a new piece. It is challenging and often stressful because I care! It is such a rush and fantastic sense of accomplishment and joy when the flow is right.
