Old Masters Academy
It’s never too late!…to paint!
Artwork by Terry Pike McBee
I’m a 70 year old grandmother from South Carolina. Thanks to my high school art teacher, I have always loved to paint and draw. She introduced me to all art forms…from collage to pottery to creating my own fashion catalogue to drawing and watercolors.
My “art studio” is a drop leaf table which sits between two single beds in my guest room! It’s beneath a window, looking up into a grand elm tree…very inspiring! …

I have always had an ability to draw what I see
Artwork by Richard Lewis Westover
… When i decided to learn how to paint, i struggled; learning without a logical structure and progression. I searched; eventually setting up a five-year self-study plan like the 19th century academic painters in France. I have learned a lot since then!
Sites like Old Masters Academy are an amazing asset by showing vs telling how to draw and paint with great skill like those who influenced the Salon and École des Beaux-Arts in the first place—the old masters. It also respects art history as much as getting brushes dirty. Old Masters Academy is a contributing force breathing life back into the dead art of painting and drawing in a guild-like manner. I wish to be a part of that revolution.

I love the approach of the old masters
Artwork by Jerry L Gadd
The love in my life is art and painting. It’s what I think about every day. Where ever I am and what ever I see I’m thinking about how I would paint the tree or the landscape in front of me. I’ve been painting and drawing all of my life, and I paint every day and love the challenges of painting, I don’t just paint one subject or thing. My current interests include not only the Mid-Atlantic Region but places and things from all over the United States, including landscapes, seascapes, portraits, florals, and still life. …
Don’t waste your time!
Artwork by Raimonda Balandytė
Here I am. At the age of over 50 I decided to go back to drawing and painting…
Who am I? Officially a teacher of drawing!!! But… I had a dream to become a stage artist and participated in competition to become one. What did happen to me? My favorite artist in review of my paintings told me: “You can’t call this a painting, that is just soul disease.” …

… I was working as a graphic designer for 15 years, I have 3 chidren and when we lost our job I returned to art seriously. I always loved to paint together with my and other children. As they are now teenagers I have more time to dive deep into art.
I love to paint with aquarelle, acryl and silk I started oil with ‘alla-prima’ a few years ago.
Oil is different and love at first sight.
I would like to improve in oil and create beautiful portraits like old masters and find my own style with the help of professionals. …
I am a self-taught painter
Artwork by Jorge Quiros
I am Jorge Quiros, visual artist and self-taught painter, I am an art teacher and businessman trying to undertake, I am Brazilian and I live in São Paulo, I was born in 1989.
Art is my vocation, and what frees me from my own existential yearnings is, in a way, the engine of my existence; painting emancipates me and I always feel very good after painting, with a finished job, I feel that the time I spend with art is time spent for something truly important.
I always seek to express the best possible of what my intimate asks for, my best being what I most sincerely do, I seek that sincerity in painting, but combined with academic beauty, this beauty is something charming. …
I may begin to consider a career in Fine Art
Artwork by Jeff Dewine
As a kid I spent a lot of time learning art and drawing. After high school, I shifted from Fine Art and would follow up with a 24 year Career in Music. As my projects found their completions, my artistic skills returned designing Album Art, Handbills, Show Posters, Backstage passes.
Once I found the Old Masters Academy Course online….I started taking notes. I was moved by Pieter Bruegel the Elders, “Christ & The Woman Taken in Adultery.”
My first Glazing/oil painting is a copy of this painting, on a wood panel, with an acrylic matte molding medium and some burnt umber, sienna, crimson and black paint. Unfortunately my entry is my underpainting done in black watercolor . I would not have been able to finish a traditional glazing technique as I began this painting a few weeks ago…. and I need to learn how. LOL …
