My name is Rachel Levine and I’m 28 years old, and living in Oakland CA. When I moved here 4 years ago, I decided that I was finally going to become a professional artist.
I have done art all my life, and it’s always had a very special meaning to me. Growing up, I would pause dvds I had and copy what was on the screen to the best of my ability, and do this every single day.

My household wasn’t peaceful either, so my favorite activity would be to draw made up characters with my sister, and create a whole unique world based out of our imagination. I could never stay focused in school, but what always held my attention was art. There are many things I’d like to work on with my art. Anatomy, color theory, maybe even still life. I live on the farm where my husband runs Australian stock horse stud and our horses make great subjects for my paintings. Therefore, my favourite subjects are – traditional way of Australian country life and my beloved horses. I started to paint with oil colors when I was ten years old as an autodidact. I always liked the old masters like Rembrandt, Rubens and Dürer.

As a teenager I wanted to become a portrait-painter. After finishing school I went one year to Paris to study arts.
Quite often I was visiting the Louvre, fascinated by Mona Lisa.

Later I became an art therapist. Sketching and painting is something I do from time to time. I also like sketching caricatures.
Art is the ground of being free and to be a creator. To paint like the old masters was always my aim since childhood.

I loved art and took it as a subject in secondary school. I spoke to my teacher about developing a portfolio in order to attend Art College. …

… I would love to win the Old Masters Academy™ course for many reasons. I really respect the work of these artists and always have. I want to be as good as them. I have no money for the foreseeable future. There’s no way I would have the time for full time college or the money. I can’t believe this has come up now because I’ve been asking for a sign to give me some direction for me and for my art. The Old Masters Academy™ has excellent advice and resources and has so much that I want to learn. I don’t want to go back to my job but need to have a purpose and a way to feed my children at the same time. I want to take the plunge and be the artist I’ve always wanted.
