Art was always my passion

Artwork by Cindy Klaserner Walker

… As noted by my college professor, I have a painterly style. My work in painting is mostly impressionistic. My drawing is more detailed. My challenge and pursuit in recent years, has been to put more realism in to my paintings and hone the skills I have in drawing.

I want to learn to be a better artist than I am. From the lessons I have seen so far, this program is more than one could hope for in a Master of Fine Arts curriculum. Because, as I stated earlier, the learning never stops, this program would be the fulfillment of my life plans to complete an “MFA” program. Help me fulfill and finish my dream of being a “master” of art.

I live to draw and paint

Artwork by Jamie Malone

… I am a late-comer to portraiture and the figure, but I attend life drawing classes one night a week with the focal point of improving over time.

I am currently working on the difficult challenge of memorising the planes of the face and skull, and also bones and muscles, I know that your online academy has a great wealth of learned information on the best ways to approach such things, therefore, I know that I am seeking the right kind of help by visiting your site. I want to become fluent at constructing nature from life and memory (to aid imaginative creations). My ultimate goal is to recreate Greek mythological scenes in drawings and paintings.

The only thing that feels right is when I’m behind an easel

Artwork by Daniel Dunmire

I see myself as an old soul. I do what I can to get by, however most pursuits of financial gain (a job) leave me feeling unfulfilled. I have a few hobbies that I do enjoy such as wood working or training my dog. The only thing that truly ever feels right is when I’m behind an easel.

I want to be able to paint larger and more comprehensive paintings.

Turning OCD into brush strokes

Artwork by Keith DelValle

… A few years ago, after visiting the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC I decided to try my hand at painting. Of course I could not start at an easy entry point, I had to choose the works of the Masters as my goal. With many visits to the gallery and countless hours researching and practicing techniques, I realize that this is now a passion.

My goal has been to learn as much as I can about the work of the Masters with my search leading me to the Old Masters Academy.
The free training videos provided by Ms. Richy has already affected my learning curve. My painting has changed dramatically and I am eager to learn more. …

Old Masters Academy review by Lucas

… I often catch in myself a strange feeling of anger and irritation when I go to the openings. I ask myself why someone less talented is doing exhibitions, and I do not. The truth is that I can’t quit my job and start painting full time. There’s no guarantee I could earn enough money to cover my mortgage and life expenses. …

… How to apply glazes and what underpainting should be prepared beforehand turned out to be a big revelation for me. Before the Old Masters Academy course, I had no idea that to paint a naturalistic skin, I have to juxtapose various glazings of various transparency. Instead, I tried to mix the right color on a palette and then blend accurately one tone into another directly on the canvas.

… I do not want to make any guesses what will come to me in my near future. Will I find the courage to change something in my life or not? Who knows? In that regard I’m a very cautious person. But ideas about changing my career path have visited me more and more often.

Freedom!

Artwork by Isabel Schmitz

… Technique is crucial to all Art. As a tool, which should so natural that it is not a presence in itself, but which serves to make the spirit of the artwork visible.
To learn and to understand the techniques of the Old Masters (build-up, composition, colour, glazing etc.) would give me the tools to greatly enhance my artistic vocabulary and help me attain the freedom I now miss. What I would love to achieve with this course, is to paint with more grace and ease, to explore a new realm, enabling me to expand my world and in so doing give beauty back to the world in which I live! …

… The Old Masters Academy appears to me to be wonderfully structured, offering clear and precise lessons stretching into every nook and cranny possible. It empowers students of every level, giving them the tools and the skills necessary to blossom confidently in their discovery of fine art. …

Artwork by Elaheh Yademellatian

… It’s been a while that I have practically been giving the understanding of the classical methods of art a try and I found it challenging to have a complete perception of it and it all got me familiar to and very interested in “The Old Master Academy”. I dive into making art my career

Artwork by Zoe Williams

I am an 18 year old artist who loves to draw and paint, and I’ve been doing so since i could hold a pencil and brush. I delight in experimentation and am looking to gain more technical knowledge as I dive into making art my career. Art has always been a soothing balm to my troubles, and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’ve been subscribed to the Old Masters Academy mailing list for a while now, and they’ve tempted me into entering this contest as I, a broke college student, can’t afford to pay for them. …

Self taught artist trying to become a professional!!

Artwork by Lucy Ambler

I’m a 27 year old self-taught oil painter. I live in London and i’m trying to make a living solely from art (i.e teaching, commissions, etc). We all know this is a hard hustle! I love painting, it brings me so much peace and it allows for self reflection and expansion in a time where the world is crowding in on our sense of identity. …

… I want to achieve the life-like quality of the old masters portraits. They had the ability to use technical skill to bring a portrait to life and I would like to learn how to breathe life into my subjects and make the process look somehow ‘effortless’ which is the real mastery behind the great painters. …
