I now have time to paint

Paintings by Sandra Bellestri

Medium, that is. Throughout my 64 years not only was I asked that question by almost everyone I know but I had to ask myself as well.
I’d love to think I’m fairly good at everything I’ve tried. Pottery, Acrylics, Watercolors, Sculpting, Fabric Manipulation, Colored Pencil. Oil Painting, however, still confounds me and also keeps me interested. I consider it a science actually.

I broke my arm last week but consider myself lucky in 2 ways. I broke my non dominant arm and I now have time to paint. I’m also finally choosing my medium of choice. Oils! I only hope no one pressures me to narrow down a subject matter. I enjoy painting Humans but I’m having a blast trying to paint seascapes at the moment. …

fascinated by the Old Masters

Visually impaired, but that won’t stop me to be fascinated by the Old Masters

Artwork by Anne

My name is Anne. I am nineteen years old and visually impaired. A couple of weeks ago, I visited a museum in the Netherlands with a group of other visually impaired young adults. We got a guided tour by a guide who took us straight to a Rembrandt painting. There, with the help of scent (linseed oil), touch (brushes) and storytelling she explained to us an entire Rembrandt painting.

I have been visually impaired for my whole life and yet at such a moment I always realise the enormous role art plays in my life. As a child I was fascinated by the Old Masters. The colours intrigued me and the compositions touched me. Ever since I have strived to learn how they did it. I am nineteen years old now and I want to learn how to paint like the Old Masters more than ever. I took my first baby steps, but I have a very long road to go and I need guidance. The Old Masters Academy course is just what I need. The demo videos already taught me so much and I am very eager to learn more. I was so surprised and enthusiastic to find this course online.

Pursuing art and never stop

Paintings by Yue Wang

I like doing art when I was young, I don’t remember for what reason I would like to join in an art class to learn professional art skills, but I do remember that I really admired my classmates who can drawing a 3D geometric shape with whole rendering. That was so cool to me at that time, so I told my parents I want to take an art class to learn drawing, then learning art has never stopped.

I like realistic artworks, like the old master’s painting. Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Vermeer and so on. My artistic challenges are mixing color and rendring method, like mixing a skin color that looks transpenrant and smoothly transfer to another color. Recent years, I’m learning the classical oil painting techniques, but I coulden’t find any comprehensive, detailed and understandable oil painting technique course. I bought the book, but it is hard to understand for some parts. Until I found several videos of OLD MASTER ACADEMY, which talk about the old master’s painting techniques and what oil paint they used, that really helpful to me as a self-learner.
I realize this is what I’m looking for. …

I want to paint the same way that the old masters did

Artwork by Govind R M

Hey there, I am Govind and am from India. Up until now I have been a self taught artist.
I see and I try to draw or paint whatever I see. But most of my completed works are either not up to my expectations or are simply incomplete.

My favorite artist happens to be Renaissance painter Michelangelo. Such paintings are great source of inspiration to me. Being inspired is one thing, but not able to have great results is another.

Skills of the old masters amazes me

Paintings by Daniel Sibley

My interest in drawing and painting came late in life although I have had a long time interest in the history of art. I believe that the history of art reflects history in general; from the ancient Etruscans, Greeks and Romans to the early Christian church through the counter reformation and the Age of Enlightenment, pairings reflect many if not most of the events and experiences of each age.

I did not become interested in becoming an artist myself until I made a visit to Antwerp in 2015 and happened to wander into the Cathedral of our Lady church and saw the two great masterpieces of Peter Paul Rubens; Elevation of the Cross and Descent from the Cross. I was stunned by the great beauty and majesty of these paintings. These inspired me to try art myself.

Since then, art has held a very important place in my life and I hope it will last the rest of my life. Those great skill of the old masters amazes me and I would hope to learn a little from every age from the early Renaissance …

Why I had to Stop Painting for Sixteen Years and Pursuing My Dream Again

Paintings by Amy Spitzer

As a child, I was rather shy and solitary and lived in my imagination. I fantasized about the world in rain puddles and beyond the reflection in my bedroom mirror. As I grew up and moved into the real world, my artwork developed from my need to explore my feelings in both worlds.

My parents were not encouraging. My mother wanted me to be a concert pianist. My father was fixed that I would be a doctor. By the seventh grade, when my art teacher told me that I had ruined my project for the art fair by being rather free in my treatment of the background space, I stopped doing any drawing and painting until my early twenties and really didn’t think about art.

In the first semester of my senior year of college, I went on a foreign studies program to Japan. I took three classes, one of which was Japanese art history. The class captivated me and awakened a new interest in art work, especially painting. I loved sumi-e paintings and wood block prints and went searching to buy old prints. But even more, the design orientation of the society kindled a sleeping passion.

I came back to school in America for my last semester and only took art history classes and independent study in art history. I then prepared to go into the field of art restoration, even apprenticing for a short time with the conservator of American art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I needed additional undergraduate credits to apply to programs in this area, but as soon as I took my first studio classes, I knew I was a painter. …

Paintings by Abbas Hussain Saleem Baltee

I belong to District Ghanche Khaplu Gilgit-Baltistan Pakistan. I started my early education from Khaplu.

I was fond of painting since my childhood. It was my passion. I secured first position in every art competition at school. As I was interested in Arts and paintings so I had so many hurdles and problems in my way as there was no particular institution in Khaplu or Gilgit Baltistan that promoted Art.

I used to make paintings in order to promote the culture of Gilgit-Baltistan. After making paintings I kept my paintings at home due to lack of Art Exhibitions in my area. Instead of giving up, I decided to continue my studies as well as my art work.

My family and friends encouraged me to a level that despite of my perseverance, I didn’t need any special institutions to continue my Art work. Art and painting is my hobby and passion. …
