Hello! My name is Maya. I am 16 years old and a self-taught artist.

Art has always been a huge part of my life. I would spend most of my time drawing and doing watercolor, but a few years ago I fell in love with oil painting. I love Renaissance art and the way they depicted realism and expressions, as well as the beauty of nature and human bodies.

I would watch tons of YouTube videos of people doing oil paintings and I’ve always wished to be able to paint as great as them, but unfortunately, I lack the necessary knowledge. …

… I am 35 years old from Mendoza, Argentina. I received a degree in business administration in 2013. With my diploma under my arm I began to travel through various countries as a backpacker. In some places I was able to work from what I studied but in others I had to cook, clean floors or wash dishes.

But in Chile I was able to work as an investment consultant. That changed my way of thinking about money and the kind of life I wanted to pursue. I was lost for a while but then I decided to try to do something that would have more value in my life. Something related to the creative field.

As a child I loved drawing and copied the old masters drawings. I applied to art college and decided to do graphic design. I had a liking for typography. I did not loose my interest in art and studied history and visited art galleries.

… My passion in oil painting is introducing realistic elements in a meaningful way. I also strive to do my own compositions, making it unique. My mind is filled with a lot of painting ideas, but frequently I feel the lack of technique that would allow me to express them fully.

I need to learn the Old Masters’ techniques so I can go further in painting realistic subjects. I already have some technical notions due to my academic studies and conservation practices, but I need to learn some specific techniques of the masters. Furthermore, I need this push to feel able to apply my theoretical knowledge into effective painting practice.

… I want to bring my skill level up so that I can paint anything the way I want it to look. I want to make art from my imagination with realistic details, not just copying, but understanding the lines and knowing golden rules.

From my experience I have realized that passion, emotion and feelings are important, but they are not enough without proficiency, skill and instruction. I am sure that with the Old Master Academy I will fill in the gap more quickly than with other resources.
