desire to paint like the Old Masters Susan Marshall

…the desire to paint like the Old Italian Masters still remains…

Paintings by Susan Marshall

… Having spent a lifetime with these arts, I came to drawing and painting later. Later means after I had the courage. Quite by chance I saw a wonderful realistic full portrait drawing in a gallery window on my way to work. I loved it. I discovered the same painting reproduced on a flyer advertising art classes. I wrote to the painter who never responded and read through his biography to find he trained in Florence, Italy.

Two years later I spent 8 years in two academic academies, and surprisingly never learned to paint the traditional, time honoured way of the masters. I had wonderful teachers and the experience to study the impressionist style, but the desire to paint like the old Italian masters still remains. …

Story from Linda Duckworth, Old Masters Academy student

I have been in love with drawing and painting since I was a child but majored in science and worked in the nuclear industry for nearly 30 years – only painting when between jobs.

I retired a few years ago due to health reasons and now paint when I physically able, generally pinky a few days a week and inky a few hours at a time. …

This course can help me a lot!

Drawing by Sandra Alina

Hi, my name is Sandra Alina, I`m an art lover and I think that art expresses our inner reality.

For as long as I can remember I have had a pencil in my hand. I spent part of my childhood in a rural area of Romania. There was no art teacher or art classes at that time.

I have developed my drawing skills by myself and I have created my own world by drawing and painting every time I could. But I never found such good information and instruction before. …

I am 72 and my dream has always been to do oil painting when retired

Paintings by Donette Saunders Pretorius

My name is Donette. I am 72 and have recently retired from nursing the aged and Altzheimer’s patients.

My dream has always been to do oil painting when retired
. I have felt the urge to record the beauty that I see in nature and also to do portraits of people and animals that I also love dearly.

I have loved to paint since childhood. People have always liked my work but I know that I have to learn a lot more about the art of drawing and painting. I would love to paint without the fear of making a mistake, to use clean colours, to learn all about values and tones and to paint nice loose strokes where every brushstroke makes an impact. …

On the path of the Old Masters

Oil Painting by by-Adejean-Cardoso

Hello! My name is Adejean, I’m from Niterói, Rio de Janeiro – Brazil. At the moment I’m BS Pharmacy student but always in love with arts (not only drawing and painting, but also music, cinema and theater).

Art is an essential and very special friend in my life. Since I remember I’m very connected with art since childhood, but just now I decided to take it seriously and start to study everything that I could in classical arts. The old masters works are certainly the main inspiration and objective that I have.

My major challenges are in color theory and composition. I already noticed that a minimum mistake in these subjects can destroy all the composition. I’m doing my best studying everything that I can. …
