Mag ik een meesterschilder worden?

Artwork by Yvonne Hof-Brouwers

Lieve lezers/kunstenaars,

Drawing is my passion, but my specialization in painting has been a challenge in my life

Artwork by Ana

Since my childhood, I have felt a deep admiration for Michelangelo’s frescoes, the beauty of his designs can move even the imagination of a four-year-old, and perhaps less so.

Drawing is my passion, but my specialization in painting has been a challenge in my life. Some people think that being an artist is a waste of time or a simple hobby. Or that being a painter, does not have the same merit as a doctor, a lawyer or a high official. To banish these prejudices, it is necessary for the viewer to be captivated by the beauty of an image. And this can only be achieved, in my opinion, by imitating the ideal of the great masters. A Raphael’s Madonna, a Michelangelo’s ignudi, Titian’s landscapes, the mysterious halo of Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Botticelli’s delicate deities, communicate an idea of the grandiose, of the transcendent. …

I crave and wish to paint like the old masters

Artwork by Henry Ikiseh

My name is Henry Ikiseh, a drawing academy student, a visual artist by profession. I engage myself in drawing and painting almost every day. This is the life I have chosen and love every bit of it.

While growing up as a child I was discouraged from studying art by my dad and the society around me but due to the strong passion I have for art I never gave up my dream to become a professional fine artist. I sorted many artists as a child to teach me how to draw and paint, I felt drawing and painting is a quest I needed to fulfill in life. I would buy many comic books and copy drawings from there to make my comics, which I would sell to my friends and comic lovers for a stipend.

Art takes the first position in my life. To take away art from me is to take away my existence. I am so enmeshed in the art that my whole intellect revolves around it. …

I developed myself in a self-taught way

Artwork by Péter Somlyai

… I learned the profession of a carpenter, meanwhile led by the painter József Rácz in the Fine Arts Circle 6 b. with pencil I developed my drawing skills with charcoal in watercolor and painted with pastel chalk. I worked as a decorator in the canning factory in Nagykőrös.

In the last 10 years, among other things, I graduated from the Piarista grammar school in Kecskemét, I developed myself in a self-taught way, then I went to an online academy and evening school as a painter at SzámalkSzalézi Szki. where I can learn the mysteries of painting from Contemporary Artists, namely János Zoltán Kovács and many other excellent artists. I also got my Certificate as a Graphic Designer and Painter here, which is the fruit of 4 hard years of work. …

I try to learn drawing and painting

Artwork by Feza Ozturk

I am a retired academic in science. Since my childhood, I envied people who can draw and paint to bring out their inner worlds. I had no natural talent at all; so every time I tried to copy somebody else’s drawing, it a was disastrous experience.

In my life today, drawing and painting serves as a refuge from my daily worries. Spacetime goes into a state of suspended animation when I’m submerged in converging the lines and curves into an emotional form on my canvas. …
