On the path of the Old Masters

Oil Painting by by-Adejean-Cardoso

Hello! My name is Adejean, I’m from Niterói, Rio de Janeiro – Brazil. At the moment I’m BS Pharmacy student but always in love with arts (not only drawing and painting, but also music, cinema and theater).

Art is an essential and very special friend in my life. Since I remember I’m very connected with art since childhood, but just now I decided to take it seriously and start to study everything that I could in classical arts. The old masters works are certainly the main inspiration and objective that I have.

My major challenges are in color theory and composition. I already noticed that a minimum mistake in these subjects can destroy all the composition. I’m doing my best studying everything that I can. …

With Brush in Hand, You’ll Never be Lonely

Oil Paintings by Elizabeth Tucker

I started painting and drawing in my late 40’s after my husband, out of the blue, gave me an easel. It went in to the basement. Then he gave me money for art classes. OK….Why not give this a try. I’d always worked with my hands and loved art history so in I dove. It was life changing.
I quit my job and took classes and have never looked back.

I am completely drawn toward a traditional approach and went to a traditional art school but I didn’t learn grisaille and other aspects of old master style painting. It was mostly alla prima. What I learned after school I got from books and on-line.

Art is a MAJOR part of my life. I paint and draw almost every day and I teach painting and drawing. I also run an art group which has over 40 members. What I want to learn are methods that I can not only practice but become completely fluent in so I can pass those traditions on to other students. …

I have been drawing since childhood

Artwork by Tina Rettka

I have been drawing and interested in art, particularly since a child. First exhibit, grade 4, Oshawa Art Gallery, Ontario.

Being self taught has been a long journey and a lonely one.

My goal has been to paint paint realism.

I believe with proper instruction, this will happen.

Always wanted to go to Art School. Now I am at a point in life, I can further my dream. …

I decided to devote myself to making art

Painting by Carinnes Dumont

Hi art-lovers,

Four years ago (I was then 53) I considered to devote my life to the art, my children had moved, and I was alone. After long consideration, I decided to leave my home, children and family, friends, my familiar life, and devote myself to making art.

Soon, however, all kinds of difficulties arose, so I had to stop my studies in the local academy of my new residence. Chronic fatigue caused my self-confidence to be completely gone. Stubbornly I continued drawing and painting, I refused to let go of my passion, the only thing that could color my gray days.

I started the Carravagio as an exercise for my daughter, but I have to leave it unfinished. Without professional help I’m afraid to mess it up: I feel a lack of good education. …

I have not taken any art lessons, I just learnt things on my own

Artwork by Nik

Hi, my name is Nik and l am 21 years old. I’m staying with my parents. We have six members in our family.

I love art very much and that is my hobby. I do have a little knowledge about pencil drawing but not much about painting.

I have not taken any art lessons, I just learnt things on my own – I spend almost all the hours of the day in studying art. I think I have improved a lot from the time I started. It doesn’t mean that I’m good enough but I have a lot to learn more and that is the reason I’m entering this competition.

I just want to be better than my yesterday and show the world what I can do with art.
I want to have more knowledge about art. I want to learn everything about art. …

No matter how I feel, I am able to translate it into my art

Painting by Albert van Wyk

I am 34 years of age, and living in South Africa.
I have been and artist since the day I was born.

I would say the hardest challenge for me as an artist would be, is to find my voice and my own unique style.
I have tried so many styles in life, but I have to keep on trying till I found something that I am comfortable with, and get my confidence to where it must be.

Art is a never ending learning curve, there are so may techniques, material and endless options and combinations.
How amazing must it be, to learn something new every time, and to fall in love with every new thing that you have created.
But I have to say, the one thing it would REALY like to learn, is very very fine detail, and to be positive and proud with my skill. …
