How to paint like the Old Masters using modern materials

I am Katrina, a self-taught artist.
Art is my hobby and my passion since I was a kid. In fact wanted to pursue an art degree when I finished high school, but my family wanted me to be something else.
I never received a formal art education or support to go into this field as a primary job, but it did not stop me from creating art. Through the years I feel like I am doing well, but at some point I know that I can do more and I need help.
I believe that at some point we must all have mentors, who will help us with our skills. I wanted to improve and maximize my potential and achieve excellence in what I do with the help of professionals in the field. …
I grue up in a great family but my love for art was always put a side not only by my parents but by myself too.
One day, 8 years ago, life tricked me with a question – are you going to spear your life doing nothing for yourself or…..
And I took watercolors did some nice peaces, than acrylic …..and finally oil was on my palette.
I didn’t have no one to go to for the classes so Internet and You tube became my true friends and teachers. As I like realism that only Old Masters could achieve – my goal was how could I learn to paint like Rembrandt, Velasquez, Pieter Claesz ….No need to tell you how often I thought – I cant do it- ….but I was stubborn and I said – Lily you can and must do it.
I am a perfectionist , art lover , learner I want to get better and better every day. When I saw Old Master Academy videos – my only thought was – these artist are reincarnation of those fantastic painters that I adore and admire. …
I am a lifelong resident of Jackson, Mi. and other than two + years on active duty in the U.S. Navy I have lived here all of my 70 years.I married my highschool sweetheart and we are still together after 47 years.
I can remember drawing for as long as I can remember. After my two kids were at a age where I could to back to doing some art I started doing wood carvings of lifelike ducks, birds, deer, elk, moose and more.
The Danbury Mint has published three of my works and I won a Blue ribbon @ the world carving Championships with a Drake Wood Duck in 2014.
I retired about 8 years ago and started painting using the acrylics that I had around for my wood carvings. At this time I am self taught using lessons I find online. I now paint most every day and try to get better with every painting I do. …
Since I was in college back in 1981 I wanted to know the glazing techniques of the old masters.
At the age of twenty I was already a pretty good oil painter but I still had a lot to learn and felt that knowing more about the technical aspects of oil painting like the old masters possessed would be a benefit to the quality of my work.
There where books available but learning technique from a book really is not ideal. A master oil painter knowledgeable of the old world techniques to tutor me is what I really wanted. There where non in my area that I could find and couldn’t afford one outside of my college fees anyway.
Later after I left college I did find an excellent oil painting teacher Eddwin Meyers who was teaching private courses in photorealism. He was a student of the fantastic Patrick Betaudier who lived outside of Paris France and unfortunately passed away in 2008. Eddwins teachings where invaluable to my becoming a very confidant oil painter.
The techniques that were used in the course was the Alla Prima method so there was not much done in the area of glazing and although my work was strong I really still wanted to know more about the old masters glazing techniques. …
My name is Hans Mozer (©Hamo) and i am 60 years.
I never had a chance to do much painting because of the life i led.
At 18 in the Militaries and a baby. No chance of an art education.
My first painting was made in 1985, but i had too little free time. In 1992 i moved to Spain an worked as a singer/entertainer at night and in daytime advertisment-artist on shops, cafés and cars.
Then i made some more pictures. After 2 accidents and my wife’s disease we had to return in 2003 to Holland. Working as an advertisement-artist was no longer possible for me. This is when i started to Paint, and sculpting, with no schooling and hardly any money. I had to be frugal with my materials. After selling some portraits i decided to work non commercial. Most paintings i keep in my house some with family. …
